Paul Lambert has said he will pick the goalkeeper for the game against Newcastle on the day, after Guzan’s performance gave him food for thought.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail ahead of the clash, Lambert knows he has a decision to make following Given’s poor performance against Everton, and Guzan’s steady performance against Tranmere.
‘When a keeper makes a mistake it’s highlighted, it can happen. It’s not a comment on how good a keeper Shay Given is because Shay’s a brilliant keeper. Brad’s been working on a few things, whichever plays, I trust them to go and do it. Footballers like honesty from decisions, I do that in an honest way, whichever team I pick for Sunday, I’m doing it for the best reasons.’
