Lambert On Huge Win

Paul Lambert is a very happy man as you can imagine tonight, three points, many were worried we wouldn’t get another three points all season, let alone in one game.

I didn’t get chance to cover this yesterday, but Lambert almost made another rod for his own back with one interview he gave to the official site head of the game, where he said:

‘We need five or six wins, we are going to have to. The way they are playing at the minute, they can do that. There’s no grey area, there are 13 cup finals for us to play. It’s never wavered, my belief, whether people have said things or not. I’ve got to have that belief with the way I think about the team, that’s the belief we will get out of it. We’ve had some heavy knocks, the lads have kept their heads up and kept their dignity which I think is a great thing as well, but we have to keep going and get out of it.’

Now with the game today that could’ve seriously come back to bite him in the immediate aftermath of yet another loss, but thankfully we managed to pull this one through.

With Lambert saying everybody knows we are a threat, but we need to take our chances and lock up more at the back, today wasn’t a good example of that. Two odd shots on target, but we did keep it tighter at the back, which against a side like West Ham, their physical nature and style of play is a big positive.

We have one of the six Lambert talked about, we absolutely have to get the other five and preferably sooner rather than later so everybody gets a lift and some real belief back.

Moving on, after the game today though he told the Official Site:

‘I thought we deserved to win the game, it was a bit edgy when they scored, but we deserved to win. It will be great for confidence, everyone is willing us to do it, the crowd again were fabulous. It was a massive win. I thought Nathan was exceptional, Ciaran and Ron too, they were excellent.’

Lambert described N’Zogbia’s free kick as being ‘world class’ and credit where it’s due, he seems to have come on leaps and bounds recently. We are slowly starting to see the Charlie we hoped for when we signed him.

Lambert also explained that Gabby and KEA were missing from the game as they had both fallen ill with a sickness big. Zoggy’s substitution was because he took a knock, but it’s not thought it will keep him out of the Arsenal game.
