Lambert Targets Two

Paul Lambert has apparently targeted two more players before he’ll take a break from signing people, and start focusing on moving a few on.

Mat Kendrick at the Birmingham Mail has said one of those targets is the already announced Nicklas Helenius from Aalborg with the club hoping to seal the deal for him early next week, as he’s been given permission to travel to Bodymoor for a meet and greet given the stage we are at in negotiations.

Curiously we also have another ‘mystery’ potential signing on the cards, but with absolutely no details available whatsoever so far – but there are plenty of rumours.

Should the Helenius deal go through, our early business this season will have seen us strengthen upfront, midfield (Bacuna/Tonev) and defence (Okore).

With everyone expecting Shay Given to move on this summer so he can see out the twilight of his career on the pitch and not the bench, it’s not a stretch to consider the goalkeeping position as the final place Lambert will address before changing tact.

As for the players Lambert will look to move on, we’ve already released a number, and it’s not difficult to see Darren Bent, Stephen Ireland, and Alan Hutton leave. There are also doubts over the futures of Brett Holman, Barry Bannan and Nathan Delfouneso and even Derrick Williams is being linked with a move to Bristol City.

Through a mix of permanent deals and then potential loans so players can get first team action to bring them on it’s not a stretch to see maybe 10 departures all in, on top of those already released.
