Lambert Wants To Build

Paul Lambert has said he wants to build something special at Villa but of course we need to stay up first.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert again said that what he has done would’ve had to have been done by somebody else in any event because of the financial wage issues at the club, but he believes that as long as we get over the line this season and maintain our Premiership status, we will be well placed next season to really develop on the pitch:

‘I think progress has been made. What we had to do when we first came was do what we’ve done. Someone somewhere had to go ‘this is what we’re going to do’. If it hadn’t been me, it would have been someone else. We thought, no matter what, we don’t deviate from it, we stick with it.’

Many fans will again point to January and the lack of experience and leadership on the pitch that wouldn’t have needed us to back track on the plan for young, hungry players, it would’ve in many ways aided them with leadership, experience, on pitch savvy, and helped them keep their heads and possibly hit the form we are now showing, a few months back.

The balance and the deepness of the risk is what irks most fans, not the overall direction.

It looks like it may now work out for us as we have hit form and dragged out results just at the time we needed to, but it didn’t need to be the risk it was.

Lambert also says ‘no one can say we’re boring that’s for sure’. Very true, frustrating would be the word of choice this season though.

‘All credit must go to the team for the results they have produced over the past few months. They have been absolutely outstanding for doing it when everyone wrote them off and had a go at them. They deserve credit, they are playing really well, but we had to believe in what we were doing and stick with it regardless of what other people outside of here thought.’

Lambert again rightly thanks the supporters for their patience, and their efforts backing the team, especially during the darker periods this season, and he hopes that they are now seeing the rewards for that.

‘You do have to go through hard times in football to come through it. You have to feel that adversity. It will be the making of you. It will make you stronger. The fans have been absolutely fantastic, they have been with the players and doing everything they can to get the results for us. Thankfully it’s been working of late.’

Lambert also thanks Randy and Paul for their support and patience with him this season and he points to successful clubs have stability in the managerial chair.

Let’s hope we look back at this season as being the catalyst for what we all want moving forward.

‘You have to have that support, thankfully the chairman stuck with it and the chief executive too and they have offered constant support. It can be really tough when you don’t get off to a great start but you need people at the top who stick with it, thankfully, that’s what happened. We are building things here that hopefully will be special. We have a terrific foothold. We will try to keep building the football club and take it where we want to take it.’
