Looks like Henri Lansbury is set to sign for Aston Villa today. Great news.

Pat Murphy just tweeted “This season – when Lansbury’s played – he’s contributed 40 per cent of @NFFC goals in assists plus his own goals. Good signing.”

Adding:

Steve Bruce talked to the press about him:

‘Henri is here today, he has passed his medical and has agreed personal terms. There is still a little bit of paperwork to do but it is a done deal. I expect him to train this morning. He is a good player and he can get around in midfield and chip in with goals, we need that and he fills the gap.” Adding, ‘He is somebody I have known since he was a boy, he is something a bit different and can score a goal. He is creative and has the ability to score and we need to improve on that. We have a very good player and I am delighted we have got him.’

Goals from midfield and assists? Wowzer! It`s been a while hasn`t it?

As I said in my blog for The Sun

“We are being linked with Henri Lansbury. Drive and goals from midfield? Yes please. He does have too much hair though. Pros and cons to any signing! We keep being linked to strikers but what is the point of buying more strikers when we don`t supply them?”

And I interview ourkidsdad, the Vital Forest Editor at the beginning of January.

‘Believe or not – Henri is only 26, but he is out of contract this summer and whilst he can be a game changer on his day, if Villa are looking at outbidding Derby – who have had an offer of £2.5m turned down, then this will take some turning down by Forest – we are skint! Perhaps £2.5m and Gary Gardner coming the other way?

That said – Forest are once again in a state of turmoil, under a transfer embargo and awaiting the takeover going through – so, Henri may well choose to jump from a rapidly sinking ship or he may well get a bumper new contract if the Americans decide he`s worth it!

Henri, when played in the right position, is a goal threat, he brings energy and tempo and has dragged Forest through the odd game, but he is often prone to errors of judgement, picking up daft bookings far too frequently – he`s on 9 already from 19 appearances. Yes, I`d be sad to see him go, but would prefer it to be Villa or Watford rather than Derby.’

He also mentioned in email they`d take Gary Gardner back, I said that might actually end up an option as he`s really not cutting it at the moment at Villa (I said that as a total guess btw, I have no idea what Bruce is planning. I know we`ve given GG a new long term deal but sometimes these things are done to make sure players aren`t able to leave on a free)

OKD answered:

‘To allow Henri to leave we would need someone in return – certainly at centre mid, where we are short of numbers and certainly any that have quality. GG was popular at Forest in his first spell & did ok last time, but he (like Henri) suffers from injuries.’

Fan`s opinions on Vital Villa…

too much hair, no thanks… next !!!!!!!!

He’s better than what we’ve got in his position, so why not?

I’d have a hairy villan – Mellberg springs to mind
John Lamb

He’d be ideal for us, a proper box-to-box player of the kind we’ve been missing since Ian Taylor. And he scores a few as well! As long as he gets rid of that ridiculous haircut, he’s very welcome.

Definitely an upgrade on Westie and Gardner….wouldn’t be a bad trio of Lansbury, Tshibola and Jedi. Still need another midfielder though

Been wanting Lansbury for a few seasons. He’s not that old, loads of championship experience, and capable of making the step up to the prem. He’s a leader who scores goals and gets stuck in. And Gardners best form so far in his career was playing alongside him at Forrest. Get rid of Westwood and I’ll be happy (for now) with a choice of Jedinack, Lansbury, Gardner, Tishbola and Lyden.

Other than JPA we haven’t had a dodgy haircut in a while. Chico Hamilton and Andy Gray’s perm did alright though…. just hope he doesn’t replicate Steve Foster or Trevor Hockey….
