Midfielder Henri Lansbury has been reflecting on our midweek draw to Walsall and insisted that Aston Villa will be ready by the time the Championship campaign kicks off.

With some seeing a noticeable improvement on our Shrewsbury showing in terms of the chances and half chances created, plenty of other fans continue to be concerned with an overall lack of joined up play so far this pre season campaign but having been back at the grind for 19 days, we still have another 16 days to go before we open against Steve Bruce’s former club Hull City and Lansbury believes with a fitness grounding now in place, quick and speedy improvements will be seen from the fans.

He did however admit our poor performances so far hadn’t been the plan at all and the players themselves know they need to show significant improvement.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail following the scoreless draw at the Banks’s, the former Nottingham Forest man explained.

‘We`re half-way through pre-season, we`re not match sharp and we`re not match fit but we`ll get that in time. Every training session and every game is important now. We`ll be ready for the start of the season.’

He went on to add that at the moment there isn’t over concern with performances and goals because players know pre season and sometimes it takes a bit to get in full flow and pre season is never an indicator of the kind of season you are going to have. Some sides fly and then tank in the first month, others struggle and get off to a winner start.

That didn’t mean he dismissed we needed to improve but he felt that would come.

‘There`s no concern. It`s pre-season. The boys are still getting their match-fitness up. It`s now flowing properly yet but when the season starts we`ll hit the ground running. We`ve got a fantastic group here and the confidence will come definitely. The boys only have one goal – to get this club back to where it belongs. We have to fight week in week out. We have to grind out 1-0 wins and get back to where we want to be.’
