Midfielder Henri Lansbury has said Aston Villa’s players must embrace, enjoy and rise to the challenge of promotion from the Championship in 2017/18.

With us featuring highly in the bookies charts for promotion this year, and obviously it being the clear aim of the club after another largely disappointing season last year where we finished 13th, Lansbury has been the latest player in front of the media and he told the Official Site that the players simply had to enjoy the challenge that lay ahead of them.

‘Obviously, Aston Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the country so people will have us up there in their odds for promotion. We need to relish that. We need to savour that. We want to prove them right.’

Reflecting on last season, whilst we had troubles, he feels it has stood us in good stead going into this campaign as largely the group now know each other and they already have a handle on what manager Steve Bruce wants and expects from them.

‘Obviously last time out was a stop-start season. Now we have a settled squad of players who have got to know each other really well. We`re a tight group – and we have some very good players.’

The interview couldn’t pass without talk about transfers and a certain John Terry, and Lansbury felt that could only help us moving forward.

‘Obviously the transfer window is open and the gaffer will have some targets. They will add to the group. He`s already bought in JT and I don`t think it`s possible to have had a better start to the transfer window.’

He added.

‘Let`s believe in ourselves and in the group. I certainly have faith in myself, the team and the manager. The gaffer has promotions on his CV and, if we play to our potential, I think we can bring him another one.’
