No this isn’t some horsey joke with carriages, Laursen puts the thanks for his 6 goals as their door.

Laursen, Player of the Year, bagged 6 goals during the last campaign and he thanks the coaches for having a quiet word with him about how confident and aggressively he should be attackeing the ball when in the oppositions box.

Speaking on the official site, Ol Reliable Knees said:

‘I was delighted with my goals tally. People have been telling me that I can improve – and I have to improve – when I go up for set-pieces.

‘I’ve been told to be more confident when I go up into the opposition half and that’s what I’ve tried to do. It’s been working. I’ve believed more in myself. I now go up wanting to score rather than sometimes just to make my presence felt. I want to make something happen.’

He was certainly making something happen, at one stage in the season we thought he would end up our leading scorer!

Laursen also couldn’t resist thanking the fans and expressing his pride at being voted the Supporters’ Player of the Year award.

‘That was a great feeling and a very positive aspect for me.

‘It’s important for players to get acknowledged by others about how well they’ve played. You can never be too big or too proud to win awards. I certainly can’t when I’ve had such long periods out injured.

‘The award is proof that you’re doing something right and it’s a great feeling.

‘It is great to talk about my performances rather than my injuries but I accept that the subject of injuries will come up in conversation from time to time.

‘That’s only natural because I have had a lot of problems. I haven’t got an issue with speaking on the subject but it’s nice to talk about my football.’

Sounds like a player fully determined to put the past worries behind him now, and certainly his performances last season have done that, but now he wants to go onwards and upwards – Top 4 would be nice eh.
