From Vital England:

Aaron Lennon is the latest England player forced out of the squad to face Montenegro in next weeks Euro 2012 qualifier.

Having complained of a sore back on Friday following further tests today it was decided to release the Spurs man from the squad so he could go back to Spurs for further treatment.

His place has been taken by Stewart Downing, who returns to the England set-up for the first time since a friendly against Egypt in March – the Villa man, who has been troubled by injuries over the past year or so, did not make the 23-man squad for the world cup, or indeed the provisional 30.

Downing ‘might’ get the nod to start, although it is more likely his former Boro teammate Adam Johnson will be chosen by Fabio Capello after the Man City winger impressed as a sub in the last couple of games, scoring in each.
