Looks like, at last, training is more interesting for the players and also a bit more brutal. I’ll keep my thoughts on the previous training and coaches to myself at this stage I think, why look back when you can look ahead? However from the comments coming out of Bodymoor Heath both publicly and privately these days, the players seem far more engaged and are being worked far harder.

Maybe the end of the 60 minute games for some players is close? Maybe the team will be able to play two good halves instead of the great start and flagging? Maybe even, dare we hope, the team will be able to get through a whole season, not just up to February!?

Happy days!

Luke Young has told the official site that the new fitness coach, Robert Duverne has them working hard.

He said: ‘We had double sessions on Wednesday and Thursday too. We’ve done fitness work in the morning and more technical football in the afternoon.’

Music to the ears? Technical training? Ha, the end of us having world class training facilities and 90’s style training?!

‘I think the manager wants us as fit as we possibly can be. I think if I was a manager that’s exactly what I would do too. We have no complaints. The lads are enjoying it. It’s been good. Robert, the fitness coach, has loads of good ideas – we’ve been doing a lot of different stuff to try and get us as sharp as he’d like us to be.’

He also says that although they are obviously concentrating on fitness, the training also involves a ‘lot of football movements’ and says the variety has been good, everything being done is different for them.

‘He’s worked with footballers for a long, long time and I know he was involved with the French national side during the summer too.’

Adding, ‘Every day we’ve come in and done something different. That’s good for footballers because they don’t want to come in and do the same thing all the time.’
