Let The Media Love In With Leeds Begin, Facts Are, Villa Beat Themselves – Match Stats

With four wins from four in the Premier League campaign of 2020/21, Aston Villa went into tonight’s clash with Leeds United at Villa Park on the verge of making history and potentially moving to the top of the table.

It was a more sluggish start from us, but we knew Leeds would dominate the ball so it was about working our way into the game and then making the inevitable chances we created count. We slowly grew into it, but there’s no denying we rode our luck a little – but quite how they weren’t reduced to ten men ahead of the 15 minute mark is utterly beyond me.

Our best chance undoubtedly fell to Trez, but he tried to run it in instead of just hitting it. Jack Grealish’s chance was even better but sadly we saw it cleared from the line. At least a few chances were coming now and we were getting more into the game.

How VAR decided that wasn’t a penalty on Jack was beyond me, but we needed to be more awake at the back as they cut us right open ahead of the break.

Time for us to find that extra gear in the second half.

We didn’t really, until Jack had a moment of genius and went past most of their team, but dallying for the shot, their keeper got to it – that was the guilt-edged moment and Goal of the Season if it goes in. Konsa then brought a fine save out of their keeper – had the game turned?

No, they went down the other end, cut us wide open and made it 1-0.

Ignoring everything that happened in the middle – Cheating Princess Bamford got his brace and for the first time in a long time, our heads looked like they had gone following their antics and the total idiot carrying the cards.

We didn’t react properly and paid for it. 3-0 with 15 minutes to go and of course the Olympic diver completed its hattrick.

Ultimately, we only have ourselves to blame as we let our heads go when there was no reason to.

Ollie Watkins’ late miss sums everything up about the night.

Perspective – we were going to lose, but the manner of this hurts.
