The club have confirmed that Villa should complete the season long loan signing of England Under-21 keeper Scott Carson from Liverpool tomorrow.

Obviously he won’t be able to play against his ‘parent’ team but will be eligible for the Newcastle United match on Saturday 18th.

  • Carson will come if Bolton do not accept the Jussi bid, which is 50/50 in my opinion. Good options if you ask me. both alot better than Gordon or Tommy. We offered 6mil for Gordon but Sunderland started a bidding war, which ended with us pulling out idiots hope they go down. Any other England U21 players coming our way?

  • at least we have cover now, good prospect, shame we are training him up for Liverpool’s benefit but if he helps us into Europe, we can always try to buy him then!

  • Scott Carson will be a good signing for us and could save us a few results this year, but i don’t think either Sorensen or Taylor will be very happy with the acquisition as i would definitely put Carson in the starting 11. But still no proper signings as yet….?

  • He wants to play first team football so he can improve his chances of an England place. Rafa initially didn’t want him to leave but relented so as not to harm his England carrier.

  • Next year is anyone’s guess. Liverpool might not be in Europe (very unlikely) but we might be. Who knows? The important thing is that MON has come up trumps on this one, whether or not we get Jussi. Despite all the frustrations these last two months, its a million times more exciting than the previous 4 or 5 years. Let’s hope Martin can work the oracle on two more defensive players, eh.

  • Its a usefull stop gap,he’s a good keeper and will prevent any Hungarians from showing up at XMAS.Gives us time to get a real quality keeper next season.

  • Shows why MOn is reluctant to buy overpriced players. 1 month ago we were talking about Carson for 3 mill, now we are talking about 6. Pool dont want to make us stronger easily, only way is a year loan and the player wants to leave for us.

  • Excellent news. Scott Carson is a quality ‘keeper and he’s going to get better and better. I think a lot of supporters, if given the choice, would probably have slightly preferred Carson over Craig Gordon. The fact that it’s a loan signing does temper my enthusiasm slightly (I was quite confident we would keep Milner after his season-long loan), but if Reina remains Benitez’s first choice and Itandje turns out to be a good prospect, Liverpool are going to struggle to take the player back happily. In which case, if he does well for us, hopefully there will be a chance we can sign him next summer. I believe that we’ll be stronger this season for having him though and this is a step in the right direction.

  • Dont really rate Carson but I have included him in my Sun Dream Team now. £2million for a keeper who will play week in week out behind Laursen, Mellberg and Bouma. Bargain.

  • This is an excellent signing. I don’t know how long Carson’s contract with Liverpool is but if he is not getting first team exposure with them he will surely push to leave. If we can be successful there is no reason why he should not come to us permanently. This can be a quality long term investment for us.

  • I tend to agree with Deano I’m afraid. I’m not a Carson fan, believing on the evidence that I’ve witnessed that he’s hugely over-rated, but I stand to be, and hope to be, corrected. One things for certain, we needed another keeper in view of recent developments, as much as we urgently need a right full back. Not overly happy about it being a loan deal either, but sadly we obviously have very few options.

  • i think he is englands top young goalkeeper. however if our opponents get a penalty, i don’t fancy his chances. did ya see him for the u21s against holland in the shoot-out? he didn’t give himself much chance.
