Luke Is In Control

Luke Young believes our destiny is in our own hands and he’s looking forward to the Dubai trip so we can return and start playing to our best.

Speaking on the official site after the dust has settled given last nights result, Luke Young insists that fans shouldn’t feel too despondent, and neither should the players, despite the week we’ve had because all of us would’ve been more than happy with this position if it was offered at the start of the season.

‘We are aware of the situation and the games that are to come.

‘If we don’t finish fourth it is down to ourselves. We don’t need to worry about others because it is down to us.

‘When you look at it, destiny is in our own hands.

‘We would have taken this. We just have to keep focused on what we need to do now. There are 10 games to go. That is like a mini-season for us and we will be up for the challenge.

‘If anyone would have asked whether we would have taken the amount of points we have at this stage and the position in the table, we would have snapped their hands off.’

He’s right on so many levels of course, most of thought a decent (cough) Uefa run and another top 6 placing would be our aim this season. Champions League places only came into play after the Barry debacle to be honest.

So to find ourselves where we are has been phenomenal.

Sadly, the bit missing from Young’s speech – which you couldn’t expect him to put in – is most fans feel the way they do at the moment because we are worried that with how we are playing we’ll start slipping and all the hard work and achievements made this season will count for nothing.

It’s not about taking 4th place at the start of the season, that really only applies should we finish in 4th place despite badly at the end of the season and after some more disasterous results.

The fans do not want to see the club throw it away and with 10 games to go unless we buck up our ideas and our performances thats exactly what we’ll do.

‘That’s no consolation for the last two games – I accept that – but we know what we have to do now and it is all in our hands.

‘It’s been a long season and, for me personally, I am looking forward to not having a game for the next few days because the last couple of weeks it has been a game every three days.

‘I think it will do us some good having a bit of a break and hopefully we can come back and start putting in performances like we did earlier in the season.’

It would certainly be appreciated by the fans. The season is far from over at the moment and we are in the position of being able to decide whether we lose 4th place or not. It is down to us and should the worst happen and we do slip, then at least let us go down fighting as opposed to going down with a whimper.

If we go out fighting for the next 10 games, and performing to be absolutely honest we won’t slip from 4th in any case.
