Tiny bit of press transfer talk for Villa today in The People.

The report by Steve Bates and Alan Nixon says that Gerard Houllier wants to sign Manchester United and former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick.

The England midfielder however, has other ideas and wants to stay at Old Trafford for life apparently.

The 29-year-old, who cost £18million from Spurs four years ago says, despite now drifting and Man Utd and no longer being an automatic selection on the team sheet, that he has never thought of leaving.

‘I have the rest of this season and next season left on my contract and I would like to stay here for the rest of my career. Why would I want to go anywhere else? It`s up to me this season to work hard to earn the right to do that and to make it a reality. So the aim is to be in the team as often as I can.’

The report says that Villa would be willing to pay around £8million. Doesn’t sound right? £8m for a midfielder who is available to move on a free in the summer if Man Utd don’t renew his contract?
