Martin Laursen has spoken to the News and Record and has it bang on, Villa have got to start believing they are capable of beating teams like Liverpool. For too many years we’ve looked at them as the big teams and, like at Old Trafford last season (if you were there you’ll remember the soaking we all got and the footballing lesson also!) we become slightly overawed.

The Villa defender said in his column about our lack of wins for 10 years against Liverpool:

‘Statistics like that don’t mean anything. You don’t just accept that’s the way it’s been and that’s the way it’s going to be. You must change those sorts of records!’

Adding about last season we have started to show we can mix it up with the top four: ‘We did well against Chelsea – beating them at home and drawing away, we drew with Arsenal at the Emirates but were unlucky to lose and nearly managed a famous victory at Anfield too. I think we proved we have no fear. We can come up against the big teams, play well and get results.’

‘Belief is a big thing in the Villa dressing room. It’s not acceptable to go into a game and hope to win. You must believe you can win.

Meanwhile John Carew told the official site: ‘Defensively, Liverpool are so strong. I am looking forward to the challenge of taking them on. I have won against Liverpool so I know how it feels to get a great result against them. I may not have scored in that match – but I put myself down for an assist! It would be great to do the same with Aston Villa. I’m sure we’ve got the capabilities to do that. It will be a massive test but we are confident at the moment. We know we have the capabilities to do well at Villa Park in front of our supporters and pick up three points.’

Lets hope we get the monster Hulk Carew today, not the tired lamb version! When he is on form, he can cause any defence in Europe a few problems!

Only thing left to be said: COME ON THE VILLA!
