Curtis Davies has warned that Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher will keep our strikers on their toes today. He told the official site: ‘He started as a full-back and played for Liverpool very early on his career, which was a massive achievement. As he’s got older, he’s moved to centre half. A lot of people say that small centre-halves are likely to struggle in the top flight but he’s one of the toughest in the business. He’s like a rash. When someone takes him on one-on-one, there’s no-one better. When he wins the ball, he doesn’t just get rid of it either, he uses it sensibly.’

Oh my good lord, whatever next? Mark Lawrenson, a former Red, has tipped Villa to beat Liverpool this weekend. NOOooooooooooooo! Is there a new world order or have I missed something? PLEASE don’t get over confident in Villa, we do best when we are the underdogs, pile on the pressure and things never go so well! James Milner told the official site: ‘Keeping Gareth is a massive boost for us.’ Adding ‘The fact that a club like Liverpool wanted him shows what a quality player he is. You don’t want to be losing players of that quality. It’s not just what he does as a player though. It’s the example he shows in and around the dressing room. He’s a fantastic person to have in and around the place. I know from my last spell here, you don’t know just how gifted he is until you train with him week in, week out. He’s a fantastic player and I’ll be looking to learn a lot from him this time around.’

Nigel Hokey-Cokey has told the Sunday Mercury that Villa have proved, in keeping Gareth Barry, that the club will not be pushed around. He added, ‘Everyone is pleased about Gareth staying. If I`m honest the players don`t really discuss it amongst ourselves. We see Gareth as Gareth and there has been nothing strange about the whole situation. We have always spoken to him and we hold no ill feelings towards him. Gareth`s situation between the manager and the club has got nothing to do with us as players.’

Villa will be holding a turnstile collection to raise funds for official club partner Acorns Children’s Hospice before Sunday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool. Acorns Children’s Hospice cares for life-limited children and their families. From the official site: Life-limited children are not expected to reach adulthood. They require specialist care 24-hours-a-day, 7 days a week. Acorns is the only organisation that provides this to local life-limited children while also offering a range of support services for the whole family to help them cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond into bereavement. They currently care for over 600 life-limited children and their families. However, there are a further 1,000 children living with life-limiting conditions within the West Midlands who could be benefiting from Acorns’ services. Acorns urgently need to reach these children and their families, and offer the expert care and support that helps them live every day to the full before it is too late for them.

Martin O’Neill’s post FH Hafnarfjordur reaction by Vital Villan: We Got Through – O’Neill’s Verdict

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by ‘chuffed with progression’ (ie Vital Villan in his wisdom/madness.. delete as appropriate!): Icelandic Team Man Of The Match! Coward didn’t fancy spelling it I see… that said, nor could I! Wayne Routledge came out the clear winner with 48% Next up was the one I thought would win, Craig Gardner with 22% Moustapha Salifou earnt 20% of the votes with some decent passing during the 1-1 draw. That left: Friedel (5%) Reo-Coker (1%) Davies (1%) Osbourne (1%) Barry (1%) Delfouneso (1%) Agbonlahor (0%) Harewood (0%) Knight (0%)

Having completed his move to Villa, James Milner said: ‘A lot has happened at this club since I was last here and I’m obviously delighted to be back. I was so close a couple of years ago but now I’m back. We’ve got a new training ground and a lot of new faces – on the staff and in the playing squad. This is a club on the way up and things have got better and better every season since I was last here. It’s an exciting time to be here. This is a great place to be now. There’s lots of young English talent. The top-four are the top-four and Aston Villa are getting better and better. We should be challenging now and as we look to improve we will be challenging. We’re in the UEFA Cup this season and hopefully we’ll do well in that. The next step then is obviously the Champions League. That’s what we’re working towards.’ Milner Completes Move To Villa

Thought for the day: ‘Whose idea was it to put an ‘S’ in the word ‘lisp’?’ And a bonus thought…! ‘Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?’
