McCormack Unlikely To Return From Melbourne?

Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has been quoted as saying that Melbourne are in discussions with us over extending his loan spell out in Australia.

Having been largely disastrous for Villa since arriving from Fulham for £12million (24 appearances, 3 goals) ‘Gate-Gate’ has seen him spend time with Nottingham Forest on a loan spell and this season he made the switch to Australia and Melbourne City.

His time down under has seen him return to the player we thought we were signing as in 13 appearances (12 starts) he’s returned ten goals but his existing loan runs out on January 25.

Speaking to A League following his two goals in their victory over Phoenix in his last game, McCormack is clearly open to remaining in Australia and he’s hoping an agreement can be made to see out the season before he heads back.

‘I think the club might be talking to Aston Villa as well to see if I can stay for the season. It’d be good if they could do that.’

Pressed on the talks and whether potential agreement was close, he added.

‘You’d need to ask the powers that be. I’m not sure.’

Given he’s in form and we need goals staying out there seems an odd option, but if he returns will that form disappear and would Steve Bruce use him anyway?

Scott Hogan’s goal in his last match should give him a boost of confidence, so if talks are ongoing about extending the deal, I guess Bruce is looking to give Hogan the shot instead but would an extra option hurt?
