New Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish says he’ll win over the fans who protested against his appointment from city rivals Birmingham.

The 52-year old left the Blues after claiming his position was made untenable by the owners having suffering relegation from the Premier League, and moved across just five days later to their rivals. Having managed Glasgow side Rangers in the past, McLeish says he can survive anything.

Speaking publicly for the first time about his move, the former Scotland boss says the opportunity was too good to pass up and admits his wife wasn’t best pleased when he decided to cut short their family holiday after just two days in order to speak to Villa!

Big ‘Eck says he has a fantastic squad to work with but admits he’s unsure over Ashley Young and Stewart Downing’s future. Young is reported to be on the verge of a move to Manchester United having just one year left on his contract, whilst former Middlesbrough winger Downing harbours Champions League ambitions of his own.
