Mixed Views On Villa Boss O’Leary

Well, it seems views are mixed on Aston Villa manager David O’Leary, although our poll results don’t exactly give him a glowing reference. Whilst the club is apparently under ‘due diligence’ with the Irish group Comer Homes considering a takeover, one would assume that the club won’t be making managerial changes, and with a much needed win taking the pressure off the boss ever so slightly, maybe now wouldn’t be the time anyway. Mind you, with our worst league start in over three decades, surely Doug’s axe must be being sharpened? Or has old Deadly gone soft!?

O’Leary said at the weekend that fans should judge him at the end of the season, or at the very least in the new year. It appears that 8% of fans polled agreed. Another 21% have stood by the Villa boss and said he should be kept on long term. He may well have had a point when he said he should only be judged when he can field his strongest side. He still hasn’t got a full squad to choose from, (what team has?), but he does have the majority of his purchases, apart from Laursen who is out all season, ready to be selected.

As we all know, results in football can change quickly, but it seems a good percentage have lost patience. 38% are asking for the axe to fall on the manager. Interestingly, nearly the same amount of fans say that it doesn’t matter whether O’Leary is kept on or not as long as Ellis remains at the club.

My vote is caught between bringing Burley in now and giving O’Leary until Christmas. Maybe injuries and takeovers – one way or the other – will be sorted by then. I’m not convinced that the club could actually take the instability of yet another management change. Then again…….

Have your say, vote in our latest poll, should Angel be sold?
