Villa have released a number of players today according to a headline on the official site.

I say headline as curiously there is not yet an article to go with it so I’ll edit further details into here when additional details are known.

The two obvious departures from the headline are Simon Dawkins who joined us on loan from Spurs in January, and well known out of contract centre half Richard Dunne, who spent all of last season out injured.

It appears some of the rumours recently are true as it appears Eric Lichaj will also not be offered a new deal.

Andy Marshall departs with his contract expiring but we’ve seen him do this every season since he joined us – you however wouldn’t think he’ll be re-signed as cover as no doubt Paul Lambert will looking at Benjamin Siegrist to step up next season.

The final departure seems to be our midfielder Jean Makoun. Can’t really say too much about Gerald Houllier’s signing can you.

Update –

Makoun is set to be signed by Rennes after spending all season on loan with them. The loan deal had a buy option included and they have taken it up. No fee has been released but I doubt it’ll be anywhere near what we paid for him.

Alan Hutton returns to Villa following his loan to Mallorca.

Graham Burke, Derrick Williams, Michael Drennan, Samir Carruthers and Daniel Johnson are on contracts that will expire in the summer, but all five have been offered new deals by the club.

The full retained list for next season reads as follows:

Gabby Agbonlahor, Marc Albrighton, Nathan Baker, Barry Bannan, Joe Bennett, Darren Bent, Christian Benteke, Jordan Bowery, Ciaran Clark, Nathan Delfouneso, Fabian Delph, Karim El Ahmadi, Gary Gardner, Shay Given, Brad Guzan, Chris Herd, Brett Holman, Alan Hutton, Stephen Ireland, Matt Lowton, Charles N’Zogbia, Benjamin Siegrist, Enda Stevens, Yacouba Sylla, Ron Vlaar, Andreas Weimann, Ashley Westwood.
