Eyebrows were raised when Gabby started wearing his new red boots, more discussion was had when he destroyed Bolton in luminous green ones.

However whilst most fans are looking forward to the Arsenal clash and are hoping we take the opportunity to solidify our position in the Top 4, Nike executives will be rubbing their hands in glee as overall they will be the only winners.

The reason being, they also ‘sponsor’ former bluenose loanee Nicklas Bendtner and have told him to wear the pink ones.

Speaking to the Sunday Mercury, Gabby explained that the choice of colours was down to the company and the players don’t have a choice under such ‘sponsorships’.

“We don`t have a choice. If you`re sponsored by someone like Nike, for instance, you`ve got to wear the boots they`ve given you. You can`t say you don`t want to wear them.

“You have to wear the new colours so I had to have them if I wanted something to put on my feet.

“But I like them, so I didn`t mind wearing them. I don`t think it creates any extra pressure. If you like the boots and you feel comfortable in them it doesn`t really matter what colour they are.

“I`ll be wearing them until at least February when the new ones come out.

“Bendtner`s obviously got the pink ones so I think people`s eyes might be messed about with all these colours!

“There`s not many players that will wear the pink ones. Only certain players that want to wear them. But the green ones will become popular I think, like the orange ones were.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if come February Nike launch a nice range of claret and blue boots just for Gabby.

But to add the festive touch here, Gabby already knows what he wants Santa to bring him.

“A hat-trick against Arsenal would be nice, but if not maybe a Bugatti will do instead!”
