One Hull Of A Game

1) So you have seen us beaten in the League Cup by Doncaster. Fancy your chances now?

I must admit if it had been 4 weeks ago I would have said no, but we seem to be starting to run into a bit of from now and our forwards are looking a lot more confident in their abillities. If we have the confidence going into the match and play our normal passing game, then yes we have to feel we can turn you guys over especially in front of our own fans.

2) I notice you are fifteenth in the league, is that a fair reflection on your season?

At the start of the current campaign we had a lot of injuries and at one stage I would say we had 6 first choice players on the sidelines. We also seemed to suffer from an anxiety problem where we would give the opposition too much respect instead of playing our own game. We have managed to increase the gap between ourselves and the relegation zone from 1 point to 8 points, we have players returning now and we are performing like we know we can, so yes 15th is about right at this stage of the season. We said at tge start that a top 16 finish and consolidation was what we was after and were on course to do that.

(nb: Hull have slipped to 17th since receiving this interview)

3) What is your opinion on Aston Villa? People keep saying we are a big club, but with our recent history (not our glorious past) how do you view us?

Obviously the Doug Ellis situation seems to be a constant thorn in your side and I’m sure its not helping matters, but you would have to be classed as a safe mid table premiership team who will always be there or thereabouts when it comes to europe and trophies. Take out the big 4 and you’re up there with Spurs, Middlesbrough, Man City, Everton, Bolton & Newcastle.

4) How do you think the game will go on Saturday?

I think if we sit back against you we will be thrashed, but if we can play our normal passing game we have the players who can cause you some problems. The only grey cloud hovering is the stat that we have never won a live televised game.

5) Which Hull player should we be wary of?

Up front Craig Fagan is like a hare out the blocks he has exceptional pace and will keep your defenders on their toes. Nick Barmby on his day
can be brilliant and he is the one player we have who is capable of opening up a defence with a single pass, trouble is he plays in fits & starts if he has an off day we may struggle.Keith Andrews in midfield is our Roy Keane and he will just sit back and mop up any stray balls. Leon Cort and Sam Collins are a steady defensive pairing who are good in the air. Finally a mention for Bo Myhill probably the best keeper outside the premiership, very agile.

6) What is your weak link?

Everyone above plays in a central role so our weak link is down the flanks, especially the right hand side, we seem to be having trouble filling
the defensive position and those who do play there tend to move out of position quite often.

7) Are there any Villa players you fear?

The obvious ones are your 3 strikers Baros,Angel & Phillips whoever plays out of those three will be a threat. Of the rest looking at your squad list the only other player who stands out is James Milner. The other players seem ok but nothing special.

8) So go on then, get it on the record, what is your prediction for the game?

If were on song i predict a 2-1 victory for the Tigers.

9) How do you think a loss would effect your season?

We’re not known as a cup team really and i expect half the stadium will be expecting us to lose,At the start of the season our goal was consolidation so i dont think it will effect us too much.

10) And the same as you asked me, if you lose, who would you like to see in the final?

I have a soft spot for Everton having lived in Liverpool for 8 years and visiting them occasionally, the other finalist I would like to see is a team from the championship, just to break up the big 4 monopoly.
