After admitting that Liverpool backed up speculation surrounding Gareth Barry by putting in a formal offer, Villa boss Martin O’Neill revealed he was upset at the manner in which the story reached the media.
The bid, O’Neill outlines, is not a straight cash swap but instead player exchanges could be involved – however no decision will be made until the end of the season.
The Irishman adds he has not even discussed the bid with his captain, but expects the player to honour his contract, which still has 2 years left to run, and emphasises he is building a team to compete at the top and does not want to sell his best players.
