James Nursey from the Mirror has quotes from Villa boss Martin O’Neill today hinting that he fears for his job if he can’t turn around the slump that has seen no wins in 12 games.

To be fair, O’Neill has his eyes fully open that this is a results let industry anyway, he spoke several times at the Tom Ross – Capital Gold forum a few months back about the risks in management, that if he doesn’t produce the goods he won’t expect to keep his job and that he would be embarrassed to take a long contract only to find he wasn’t doing a good job.

Villa are currently 15th and are on the worst run since 1987, so you can understand the comments by the boss, but I can’t see him being in much danger at present, if this was happening next season after spending a few quid, or is it dollars, then maybe!?

O’Neill said: ‘We just have to try and win – just ask Dowie. We are not getting the points on the board so I am concerned. Watford is now a must-win game. That sounds as if we are putting pressure on ourselves but it is because we can’t keep going in the Premiership not winning matches and expecting to survive or thrive.’

Adding: ‘We have got a battle on our hands. I always expected a slight hiccup but I didn’t expect it to last as long as it has. We’ve got to arrest the slide and get a win on board and we must start now. We’ve got 15 games left and it is a big ask for the young players in the side but we have to be up for the task.’

The run of 12 games:

Wigan 0-0 Villa
Villa 1-1 Middlesbrough
Villa 1-3 Man City
Portsmouth 2-2 Villa
Sheffield United 2-2 Villa
Villa 0-1 Bolton
Villa 0-3 Man Utd
Spurs 2-1 Villa
Charlton 2-1 Villa
Villa 0-0 Chelsea
Man Utd 2-1 Villa (FA Cup)
Man Utd 3-1 Villa

Would be good to see the Villa faithful pack Villa Park on Saturday v Watford and give the team the lift they so clearly need to halt this slide.
