Martin O’Neill has hinted that Patrik Berger might have a future at Villa Park.

The Villa boss told the official site: ‘There is a new determination about Patrik. He has had a wonderful career and played in front of big, big crowds. There is a feeling at the autumn of your career that you want to keep that going. When he came on against Watford and West Ham, playing in front of a big crowd gave him an enormous lift.’

Adding: ‘He is playing on a stage that he is used to and loves. When you lose that I think something goes out of your life. It is now a great chance for him to resurrect that. He has kept himself fit – and credit to him – and I suppose the little contretemps has now been forgiven.’

Contretemps? What a great word, got to remember that one.

  • I would hope that funds where in place to replace the old guard at Villa Park. Anyway hasn’t Cheeseburger signed a pre contract with McDonald’s happy meal united in the MLS?

  • If Berger is fit and enthusiastic about football it is a massive bonus for us. He is capable of turning a game on its head.

  • He has always been a class act, as long as he is fit and raring to go it can only be a bonus for the Villa

  • If he’s doing the business, and his attitude is right, then why shouldn’t he have a future at the club. There is no doubting his ability, and he may well be very worth keeping on for another twelve months or so. I certainly wouldn’t be against it.

  • Reading between the lines though, Patrik is probably looking for a two or three year deal, and I cant see how as a club we could take that route.
