Jonathan Kodjia has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa, with Angers reportedly keen on his signature. The 29-year-old has been short of playing time in 2018/19 but isn’t likely to be sold as Villa would be left with loanee Tammy Abraham and an out-of-form Scott Hogan in attack.

Kodjia has struggled to command a starting place under Dean Smith this season, but the Ivorian international is still a useful player. He’s contributed eight goals in 17 Championship starts and can operate on either flank as well as playing through the middle.

Angers may be keen to re-sign their former player, but it would be foolish from Villa to leave themselves so short in attack by letting Kodjia go. Abraham will return to parent club Chelsea at the end of the season while Hogan’s future could lie away from Villa Park due to a lack of minutes.

Kodjia may not be 100% content with his secondary role for Villa, but he’s far too important a player to be sold mid-season, at least without a stellar replacement brought in. It’s hard to see Villa parting company with their second-best striker midway through the campaign.
