Ross McCormack hasn’t been included in the squad for the pre-season training camp in Portugal, according to the Birmingham Mail journalist Alex Dicken.

The 32-year-old still has two years left on his contract at Villa Park and is reportedly on a wage of over £40,000 a week. He would cost the club at least £4m (excluding bonuses) over the next two seasons if he isn’t sold or sent out on loan during that time.

With the decision not to make him part of the club’s first team plans, Steve Bruce has made it absolutely clear that he wants Ross to leave. Yet, interest in the striker is not high because of his huge salary.

Considering the club are having to sacrifice some of their best players this summer to keep the club running, seeing McCormack remain in such difficult times really rankles with me and other fans.

Getting him off the club’s books should be a major priority. That may be easier said than done. We may have to give him away, or at least loan him out for another season so we don’t keep paying most of his wages.

What do you think? How should we deal with the McCormack situation? Let me know in the poll:
