Unfortunately it is over and out for Craig Gardner as far as this season goes after Villa boss Martin O’Neill confirmed the midfielder and stand in right-back won’t be featuring in the last game of the season v West Ham on Sunday. Bloody hell that was a long sentance.

Hang on while I get my breath back.

Phew, not as fit as I once was.

Right, where were we? Oh yes, Gardner. The 21-year-old picked up a thigh injury playing for the England under-21s in March and hasn’t featured since. MON said:

‘He has no chance for Sunday. He’s been taken out of it altogether. He wanted to come back earlier – he’d play now – but Roddy McDonald (Villa’s doc) has decided we’ll take him out now, so we’re not rushing him back and we can get him ready for next season.’

He says it is disappointing that he has been out for so long, especially for the player, ‘But we can’t do anything about it.’
