Good news on the injury front.

Kevin Phillips, who earlier in the week was thought to be struggling for the weekend’s away game against Bolton, should be fit.

The player went over on his ankle in training on Monday and he had to have the injury scanned. Happily no damage has shown up and he should now be able to step up his training in the hopes of being fit. Phillips had missed the game against Newcastle due to a stomach bug.

O’Leary said: ‘Kevin twisted his ankle and was sent for a scan but that was just a precaution. Every player these days is sent for them because you find out so much from them. The scan showed absolutely no damage and the medical people are saying there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be fit*.’

* For the Bolton game.

Not only that, but Mark Delaney is also back in full training following his latest injury set back. Delaney has suffered from knee and groin problems all season which has limited his appearances for the Villans, but he has been pencilled in for the reserve game against West Bromwich (at the Hawthorns) next Monday.

David O’Leary confirmed: ‘Mark has started back training but he’s got to play a reserve game next week before he can be considered. He hasn’t played for four weeks and will need one or two reserve games. No-one can come back that soon after that amount of time out.’
