Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen says he is on schedule as he fights to recover from his career threatening injury.

The Danish international aggravated a knee problem in our opening day draw against Bolton and hasn’t been able to play since. An operation by American specialist Dr Richard Steadman followed. His road back to full fitness is still a long way away though, with the player saying ‘Everything is fine. The knee is good. Dr Steadman is very happy with my progress and that was very positive.’

The 28 year old has conceded that he might not be back for up to 12 months but is sure he will be back in the claret and blue jersey.

‘Everyone is happy. I don’t know yet when I will be back playing. I am taking things one day at a time and then we will see.’

He is currently at a specialist centre in Bologna recuperating. ‘I am very happy to be here doing my pool stuff and gym stuff. It is a centre that allows me to fully concentrate on working and I feel great. I don’t have any doubt in my mind about playing again. I am sure I will be back, I am very positive about that. The knee is good and I am confident.’
