Post Chelsea Game doom or happy clapper

As you’d expect most Villa fans will be worried that Chelsea, so full of quality will come away from Birmingham with 3 points to put themselves back in third.

I don’t think, so, but if it happens and people like me start to pick flies in the performance, will you adopt the ‘time will tell, its a long progress, I’d be happy to finish 5th’ policy, join in the criticism, or sit on the fence.

Silly question I know, even if we lose and I can’t see it, so what, the lack of quality in our squad is obvious but to the most idiotic, you know those who want the Fonz to replace Carew, Heskey or Gabby to improve our strike rate.

As I see it the improvement made by the team this season is beyond most expectation, and O’Neill keeps getting the team to exceed its combined ability. I never believed it possible when people suggested that was his forte, but you can’t argue with the stats. Our recent record run is without comparison in recent times, yes it wasn’t always convincing football, we had some luck, but nevertheless we kept rising and why should it stop.

Well apart from suspensions, which are lifted in a few weeks time, injuries, which should be improving soon, and O’Neill’s poor ability to make in match tactical changes. Sorry.

Its not going to be easy, but soon the warmer weather will be here, the sun will be shining as we stand awaiting the team to come out, we won’t be bothered by too many matches to distract us, all our top 5 competitors have at least 2 competitions like us and most 3 to worry about. OK most have far bigger squads, their injuries will be returning too, and generally all have far impressive players, they have match winners all.

But then they have all season, and as some are always keen to promote we are still third. In the long run quality will always win through, but many a race has been won by an unfavoured outsider and with O’Neill I’ve learned reason often rarely counts.

Whatever the end result of this season its been fun and I have a feeling it will get ‘funner’ before the annual summer transfer misery hits Villa again.

But beware, if I want to I’ll still criticise, win lose or draw if I feel it necessary, and others will too, so bring on Chelsea, bring on the mega bucks stars, the Lions den awaits ya
