Predictable Villa Speculation Returns, But I Can’t See Former Academy Graduate Returning

With former Aston Villa centre-half Gary Cahill linked with a possible return to B6 during the January transfer window, it was always inevitable that his name would feature as we turned our attentions to the summer following his release by Chelsea.

The 33-year-old was a popular figure having come through our Academy ranks and plenty of fans were incensed when we moved him onto begin with under Martin O’Neill, but despite being a free agent, his wage demands would be something different and plenty of fans didn’t want us to go back down that particular spending route in January, and it’s no different this summer.

Sky Bet have us down as second favourites to compete for his signature this summer, but I genuinely don’t see manager Dean Smith having an interest as surely we’ll be prioritising the capture of Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe and will continue to build for the future in our summer dealings.

If we can’t get those two, we’d still surely be looking for captures of similar ages rather than any more last big payday moves.
