Reina Impresses As Striker-less Villa Battle Back For A Point – Match Stats

Following on from the heavy, but expected, thumping by Manchester City last weekend, Aston Villa were back on their travels on Saturday as we headed to Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium, looking for another three points.

Although we’d seen the arrival of experienced goalkeeper Pepe Reina and despite strong links to Mbwana Samatta, we hadn’t managed to get a striker in to replace the injured Wesley and everyone worried that would cost us.

Brighton were never going to be easy and they took the lead just ahead of the half time break, we had our moments though and with 15 minutes remaining on the clock, Jack Grealish rifled home to earn us a point.

Not great, but it wasn’t a defeat and we remain one point off safety – it was also a decent debut for Reina and he comes out with some credit.

All eyes back to the January window now and hopefully we can now get someone in sharpish to lighten the load at the top of the pitch and bolster our chances of survival – although quite what the clash between Neal Maupay and Ezri Konsa was about I don’t know.
