Relegation Edges Closer As Villa Lose Again – Match Stats
Having only picked up two points from three games since the Premier League restart, Aston Villa have kept themselves in the relegation safety mix, but with Wolverhampton Wanderers up next, plenty of fans feared we had blown the better opportunities to steal a march in the battle for survival.
Welcoming Nuno Espirito Santo’s European chasers to Villa Park, the opening half was a dull affair and even having gone with two up top, we were basically level pegging on chances. We lost Matt Targett early on and we won’t talk about Orjan Nyland’s slip up, but the scores stayed tied.
The worry was Wolves had extra gears and sadly they made that count shortly after the half time break as Leander Dendoncker rifled into the back of the net. Even then they didn’t really break a sweat.
We had chances, we just didn’t get enough of them on target but Wolves could’ve easily added to their score.
Effort yes, but certainly not enough determination or desire and plenty of fans would agree our most promising attacks actually came to an end by our own decision as we stopped going forward, turned backwards and went pointless tippy tappy again…before then losing the ball completely.
Meh – I should’ve stayed in bed.
