There has been much debate as to whether or not Nigel Reo-Coker should be handed a new deal at the club, and the news coming out of Villa Park ends all that discussion as Reo-Coker, who is arguably the highest profile on the list of released Villans, has now left the club.

Reo-Coker has been captain on a number of occasions this season and although he had become a regular this season, for the first time since his debut campaign in 2007/08, it appears that contract negotiations between club and player have not gone well and the former West Ham skipper is now free to talk to other clubs.

Joining NRC through the exit door is John Carew, the big Norwegian was a huge fan favourite during his time at the club though many would question his interest at times, often labelled ‘lazy’, big John spent the latter half of this season on-loan at Stoke City. He even featured in their FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City and it is expected that he will remain with the Potters though he will have a long list of potential suitors.

Robert Pires also departs B6, though he showed glimpses of the talent we all remember from his first spell in the Premier League with Arsenal, it was pretty obvious that at 37, Pires was off the pace and perhaps harshly, out of his depth.

Isaiah Osbourne and Moustapha Salifou who have both been members of the reserve team in recent years are the other two senior players to be released.

Five youngsters have also left the club – Harry Forrester, Arsenio Halfhuid, Durrell Berry, Ellis Deeney and Calum Flanagan.

What is telling though, is that keeper Brad Friedel has not made the list, his contract is also up this summer of course so watch this space to find out whether Friedel signs a new deal or moves elsewhere in the coming weeks.
