After a weekend away in London, i hopped on the train at Marylebone and heading back to Birmingham Snow Hill, at that very moment Liverpool were playing Everton at Anfield in the FA Cup.

Although I was not watching the game on TV, I received a text telling me that Robbie Keane had not even made the bench. Like many football fans I was intrigued. I am fully aware that Keane has made little impact since joining the side he allegedly followed as a kid.

Now Robbie Keane has had more clubs than Tiger Woods, but he is still one of the best strikers in the Premiership. And all through his Career has been linked to Aston Villa. This got me thinking, what if, Aston Villa made a bid for the player?

Liverpool are currently in the mix for the title, not a position i personally expect them to maintain, but i digress. Robbie Keane is reported to be somewhat unsettled and much like Nicky Shorey at Villa, is believed to have done very little to persuade his manager that he is capable at this level. Its just speculation……….

Just speculation i suppose, but today i read a quote from Liverpool boss, Rafa Benitez – ‘Robbie Keane was not selected, we have a very good squad. He was not injured. He is working hard and that is the most important thing for me. I have not seen him but it is normal for every player to want to be in the squad.’

He added – ‘They want to be in the 11 starters so I expect him not to be happy. Ngog was in because he scored two goals for the reserves and we had Kuyt and Babel too. That was four strikers in the squad.’

Now hold on one second, somebody scored a couple of goals for the reserves? So what? To me it would appear that Liverpool may have already accepted a bid for the player, of whom I am not sure, its just speculation……….

But could it be that Aston Villa are making a move for the Irishman? I heard rumours last week of Villa holding secret talks with an unnamed someone exciting over the weekend just gone, and with the Emile Heskey deal sealed on Friday that would suggest to me that someone may be unveiled this week, and if Keane was not playing Sunday, maybe he was somewhere else? Perhaps Martin O’Neill recognised the need for two top strikers, one being Heskey, and the other Keane? Its just speculation………..

Signing Robbie Keane would send out a statement of intent by the club, would Liverpool sell to a potential rival? Do they consider us a rival? Are Villa even interested in the player? I don’t know, its just speculation……….
