Seven Days of Villa (4)

Monday, 18th January

Current captain Stilian Petrov says there is no need to worry about our lack of goals, and former captain Martin Laursen says that the support on Wednesday will be very important. Meanwhile, Lincoln say they want to extend Nathan Baker`s loan spell until the end of the season.

Tuesday, 19th January

MON says we need to sell before we can buy. It seems simple enough to me; with the arguable exception of a striker (and Nathan Delfouneso means it IS an arguable exception) we have pretty much a full size squad. So while I am sure funds would be made available if a great deal presented itself, it stands to reason that the club would want to keep a tight ship in the current economic climate.

Wednesday, 20th January

Villa 6-4 Blackburn. What a strange game. Seriously like, how much could you have got for 6-4 at the bookies?! A disastrous start, a good comeback, a healthy lead, some silly slips and a class finish. Does that sum it up? A quick word on Sam Allardyce – say what you like about the decisions but even if they were as clear-cut as you were making out, we were denied two clear penalties at Ewood so I think these things kind of evened themselves out; you moron.

Thursday, 21st January

It looks like Kris Boyd will be a Villa player soon. Oh wait, no he wont. What does appear to be happening though is Craig Gardner moving to SHA. Hmmm. I don`t really mind him leaving; for all his versatility, he is about sixth choice central midfielder, fifth choice right-back and seventh choice right midfielder or something. Still, it`s a real shame he is going to that lot down the road.

Friday, 22nd January

The Gardner thing definitely seems on, although it`s not confirmed. Sky Sports seem to think it is though. Also, Curtis Davies is linked with a loan move to Celtic.

Saturday, 23rd January

Villa 3-2 Brighton. This was more comfortable than the score suggests, although that isn`t meant to do Brighton an injustice as they definitely had their moments. It was great to see Marc Albrighton start and set up the first goal – it was a massive shame to see him have to go off injured so early. He`ll get another chance and take it though, I`m sure. It was also nice to see Delfouneso score AGAIN, and for Delph to put in another good performance from the middle of the park. We have some very good players on our books that haven`t really had a chance yet, that`s for sure. Of course it was also good to see Curtis Davies playing again; I have never pretended to be his biggest fan but hey, that was a bad injury he suffered so it`s great to see him back in action.

Oh yeah, and the Gardner fee has definitely been agreed.

Sunday, 24th January

We draw Wolves or Palace away in the FA Cup. Personally I think I would like the Wolves – I am still miffed about our performance there in the league and I feel like we owe ’em one! MON says that Curtis Davies will not be going on loan to Celtic, and that generally we aren`t looking to loan anyone out. Finally, we are pointlessly linked with various players that we are not going to buy!

So one trip to Wembley sorted, and another is still looking good. Now, if we can beat Arsenal, it will be one hell of a few days…
