Shorey Believes Sidders Will Bounce Back

Nicky Shorey believes Steve Sidwell will bounce back from his Boro disappointment.

Even Laursen has commented it was a somewhat up and down day for Sidwell, scoring our equiliser and then gifting them the winner. According to our captain Sidwell was very down in the dressing room and could only focus on his errors in the match and not anything positive.

Shorey had a little more to say about his ginger friend stating he was big enough and strong enough to overcome his disappointment. With some of the comments our players make about each other, you have to wonder if ugly enough was ommited from the official site interview.

‘It was a rollercoaster afternoon for Steve. If you take that error out, I thought he had a good game.

‘He shouldn’t get too down on himself about it because everyone makes mistakes.

‘He shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that he had a good game and played well throughout. I’ll be telling him that and I’m sure the other lads will too.

‘The fact is he’s a top quality midfielder and a real asset for the club. We shouldn’t lose sight of that.

‘I’m sure he will bounce back. He’s a strong character and he’ll be back very soon.

‘The defeat was just one of those things. We made two mistakes and got punished heavily for them.

‘You get punished massively for mistakes in the Premier League and the Middlesbrough game was a classic example of that. The margins are so thin.

‘They have taken their chances and we probably haven’t on the day. The important thing now is bouncing back.’

One thing you can say about our pathetic losses and performances this season we generally have a knack of bouncing back. I’m not so sure we can do against Arsenal who will be looking for a return to form themselves, and I would say if we are lucky enough to scrape a point against United, we’d all take that now.

In my mind we have dropped 6 points this week against Newcastle and Boro, we really need to be looking at gaining 2 points minimum from the next two games.
