Small Cheer As Villa Suffer Another Demoralising Defeat – We Need To Get January Right – Match Stats

Whilst our EFL Cup semi-final first leg clash against Leicester City wasn’t exactly pretty on the eye or comfortable, we came out with a good 1-1 draw and given our own errors on the day, it could’ve been more than that. What mattered was we seemed to have our spirit back and with it missing in the last few weeks, we were all hoping it was the least we’d see as we welcomed Manchester City to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon as we turned attention back to the Premier League.

With the arrival of Danny Drinkwater, plenty hoped we’d have a striker in but as Saturday night came to a close, that was a boost we didn’t get.

Rather predictably it was an obvious lineup given the options available to head coach Dean Smith and the visitors totally dominated and established a comfortable 4-0 lead by the half time break.

It took only 12 odd minutes for them to make it five and inside of the final ten it was 6-0. With a stoppage time penalty, Anwar El Ghazi had the opportunity to grab a consolation and he didn’t fail but the size of the result is an obvious blow, especially as we barely laid a glove on them, but again this season isn’t going to hinge on results like this, but we can’t keep saying that and then not take advantage of the more winnable games.
