Speculation surrounding on loan Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham continues apace and Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith has admitted that he is in the dark at the moment on whether or not his parent club will try and recall him in the New Year.

The 21-year-old has hit the ground running at Villa Park following a more disappointing loan spell with Swansea City last season, and the young talent has already helped himself to 12 goals in 16 appearances for us.

If Chelsea were planning on recalling him I’d very much expect that they’d show the necessary respect and have already informed us of that fact, but you don’t need to be a genius to see why the speculation continues given his goalscoring form for me.

It’s natural really that the rumour mill would link him with another crack at the Premier League and Crystal Palace are the latest stab at that.

A recall just doesn’t seem likely for me as it suits Chelsea’s purposes to keep him playing, keep him in form and allow him to take the headlines to build up his stock. Switching mid-season with all that entails, new colleagues, settling in etc – it’s largely counterproductive.
