So Now The Press Say Houllier But No Sven!

Reports seem to be suggesting that Gerard Houllier is now favourite for the Villa job.

I started a thread on Houllier the other day which I’ve now merged into the poll thread: Click Here which followed on from the Curbishley poll: Click Here which had 118 to 17 against his appointment.

I spoke to a Liverpool supporting friend of mine (I say friend, more care in the community if I am honest) who said:

‘Good man manager, was excellent until his heart op at Pool then seemed (understandably) to loose a little passion.’

Adding, ‘Fans loved him for the football he delivered up to then though. You could do worse.’

Neil Moxley at The Daily Mail says the 62-year-old is on his way back to Premier League football with us but isn’t 100% sure whether as a manager in his own right or perhaps as a director of football to, as Neil says, to oversee a major overhaul of the club`s scouting and recruitment policy. That area has been sadly lacking in the view of many connected with Villa and Houllier`s work with the acclaimed French academy at Clairefontaine would doubtless prove invaluable as the club seeks to move forward.

Do directors of football work in the UK? Would this mean Kevin MacDonald as manager or coach? The rumour I got last week was a director of football, Big Mac as manager and that he’d bring his old mate and former Republic Of Ireland boss Steve Staunton in.

The Sun say that Villa will not be appointing Sven Goran Eriksson and suggest that clears the way for either Big Mac or Houllier.

They say Eriksson had a ‘secret meeting’ with Villa this week … can’t be very secret if it is in The Sun can it?!

Ooooh, they have a quoted ‘insider’. Do you know, sometimes I think that Doris the Tea Lady should just get on serving her custard creams and leave the talking to someone else!!!! ‘The club has a shortlist and is talking to everyone on it.
No decision has been made but there will probably be an announcement in the next four or five days.’
