Keep seeing different spellings for Petrov’s name, some say Stilian and others say Stiliyan! Anyway, S. Petrov (!) has told the official site ‘I am really happy to be here’ as he looks to make his debut this Sunday against West Ham.

He continued ‘It’s a club with a great tradition and I’m happy to be part of it. Like every player at this club, I’ll try to do my best and try to move this club forward. On a personal level, I’ll try to do my best and try to make the fans happy. As a team, we’ll try to achieve as much as we can, because the fans want to see this club moving forward and I want to be part of it.’
‘My ambition is to play for this club in Europe. I think that’s the main priority for everyone here, to get this club back into Europe.’ Certainly is, I’ve just watched the dvd Story of 1982, makes you realise just how fabulous we were and can be again!

Petrov admits ‘Martin O’Neill was obviously a big factor in the move. I worked with him for five years and I know what kind of man he is. I’m really happy I can play under him again. I think he’s a man that can always take the best from every player. I think he knows how to get the best from me and I hope to show that out on the pitch.’

O’Neill said: ‘I have known Petrov for a long time. We had five years together at Celtic. I was impressed with him during that spell and, in the course of this season, I expect him to do very well for Aston Villa. When he came over to Glasgow, he couldn’t speak a word of English but learned it for himself, went on to become captain of Bulgaria and is a really good professional.’

‘He is a terrific acquisition for us and I am convinced in time he will do the Premiership proud. At his age, he is now coming into his prime.’

Adding ‘He will take up whatever position is given to him but going forward and scoring goals is his strength.’

And Juan Pablo Angel has got in on the act adding: ‘I don’t know him yet, but I’ve heard very good things about him. The manager signed him because he’s a quality player. That’s what we need here to build up this club and move forward. Stilian is a playmaker and we haven’t had that type of player here for a while. He’s someone that can create chances for you, so it will be fantastic to have him here.’
