Couple of snippets of gossip today. Can see no ‘sources’ or real meat behind the rumours and there are certainly no quotes. However, some of us do like the transfer rumours so we might as well discuss!
The one links Gabriel Agbonlahor to Arsenal. The report on caughtoffside, as said with no reporter talk or sources at any club, reckon Arsene Wenger will turn his attention to our road runner (beep beep) striker. He was linked to them last summer as well. Our best players will be linked all the time and that is a compliment. Can see NO WAY at all that Martin O’Neill would be tempted without really silly money though and Arsenal don’t really pay silly money.
The report says the 23-year-old is valued at around £22million.
Would you sell at that?
Gabby is currently on 13 Prem goals, 1 FA Cup goal and 2 league cup goals. If my math’s is right, that is 25 goals so far this season. Ahem.
The other bit of fluff on the same site (and which comes up just jumbled coding!) says we are in for West Ham striker Carlton Cole this summer for a fee of around £12million. The report suggests he will partner Gabby (hang on, thought Gabby was off to Arsenal?!) as John Carew will be Fulham bound.
This one wouldn’t shock me, Cole has vastly improved since his loan spell at Villa and seems to have got his head sorted. However his goal tally is still not prolific, he has 9 PL goals in 23 games and no cup goals.
I think it more likely that the strong rumour we are going to buy Robbie Keane from Spurs will be the main striker target, or maybe Cole up front and Keano behind?
Hey, who knows, certainly no one but MON who now looks like he wants to stay. Could be an interesting summer though. Imagine what the addition of a top striker or two could do to our team? The pressure on our defence at times this season has been immense and by and large, they have stood up to that pressure. IF we can add goals then the midfield can start ‘expressing’ (what an awful term!) themselves more and get the ball forward in the knowledge we might just shoot and score. That would lead to a more relaxed, flair team.
Sounds good to me!
