Having reportedly told Sunderland that a loan deal for Ross McCormack was not on the table, yesterday it was reported that we were now close to a loan agreement with them.

The Chronicle were reporting that talks continued on a deal but we are now at the point where wages are the issue.

Having worked with new Sunderland manager Simon Grayson at Leeds, McCormack was quickly speculated about as a potential target but initially the stumbling block always seemed that we wanted cash and Grayson is working with a limited pot.

If we allow McCormack out on a loan deal again we will want all of his wages payed and that should be less of a problem for Sunderland in actual fact and whatever fee we were looking for, can maybe be catered for across the loan fee plus a buy clause next summer.

The Chronicle also report that Grayson has said he doesn’t expect any signings ahead of the Championship kick off for them on Friday evening, so this one still has some legs in it.
