Just as you thought sense would return with the closure of the permanent deadline window, we can now look forward to utterly mad loan suggestions and we had one on Sunday at Aston Villa – Everton winger Yannick Bolasie.

The Daily Star on Sunday (yes, I know but it made me smile) published a story blathering on about how they ‘understood’ that Tottenham Hotspur were now regretting the decision to not move quickly to secure Jack Grealish.

Why I continued to read I don’t know, maybe I was bored, but shoehorned in at the bottom of the piece was a small wibble about how manager Steve Bruce planned on being active in the loan market which runs until the end of the month, and Tammy Abraham was mentioned as a target, as was Robert Snodgrass – who played for West Ham this weekend – but then there was a solitary line linking us with Everton’s Yannick Bolasie.

For all the weight that solitary mention should carry, they may well have listed bogroll, soap and toothpaste as an exclusive, but hey ho, each to their own.

Bolasie’s spell at Goodison Park can’t be described as anything other than a failure, but he was definitely hampered with a long-term injury in fairness. However, his Crystal Palace performances and ‘wow’ moments seem to be a distant memory, so I really can’t imagine there’s even a nugget of desperate truth in this one as even at his best, he often lacked a final product and lived on the occasional ‘worldy’ moment.

There’s also the question as to what it might mean for Andre Green.
