New Aston Villa skipper John Terry has said that the club share a vision of gaining promotion this season.

The former Chelsea captain was quoted by Sky Sports yesterday from this week’s press conference and no doubt the coming days will see more snippets come out, but in this piece Terry explained that he felt the squad was more than good enough to succeed in this division but nobody could take anything for granted as it’s going to be an incredibly tough year with a number of sides having one eye on the title and promotion.

‘It’s exciting for me playing in front of 45 thousand fans. It’s a new chapter for me. Our vision is to get promoted back to the Premier League. This club belongs in the Premier League. The stadium, facilities, the squad we’ve got, the manager – everything’s in place. But we still need to perform on the pitch.’

Terry went on to talk up the club and his new collegues and he said they were all onboard with the aims for the campaign.

‘We have a vision: the players, myself and the manager, to get up like everyone else. I want to lift the trophy but there will be six or seven other clubs who will have the same ambitions. But we know it’s not going to be easy or that we’ll run away with it. But we have the mental toughness, experience, and a lot of good young players.’

With many wondering how many games Terry will actually play this year, given a considerable lack of game time compared to what he’d usually expect last season at Chelsea, he didn’t think it would overly matter – certainly not in relation his age.

‘I’m ready. Shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve had a career playing 60-65 games in a season anyway.’
