The People today say that Villa will beat Everton to the signature of West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jason Koumas. The report suggests we can beat any personal terms that the Toffee’s offer and will pay the Baggies £4million.

Many reports are linking Villa with Hamburg’s Ding Dong, or Dutch international midfielder Nigel de Jong if you want to be sensible. Full article: Ding Dong to Villa?

Nigel Reo-Coker says that Villa have bagged a star with the signing of Ashley Young and says he could be a big player for England in the European Under-21 Championships. He also says that he is remaining focused on the job at hand for England despite the supposed transfer tug of war with West Ham, according to the News of the World wanting £10million for him whilst Villa want to pay £7million. Martin O’Neill has told the Villa faithful not to panic, despite only exits so far this summer, he says they know what they are doing. With Gavin McCann and Jlloyd Samuel joining Bolton Wanderers and Lee Hendrie leaving on a free, not to mention the exit of striker Juan Pablo Angel, it seems we’ve had a clearing of the decks but not seen any of the numerous rumours of incoming stars come to light as yet. Martin O’Neill is fed up with the transfer speculation…. ooops, sorry Martin! Another Celtic player link has been dismissed by the Villa boss. Seems the press are just taking one Celtic player at a time to suggest in the rags that O’Neill is chasing their signature. Martin O’Neill said of the latest link, this time to Shunsuke Nakamura, that it was ‘complete tosh.’ I had a tortoise called Tosh once. He lived for 3 days. Gutting memories. Villa’s new boy Shaun Maloney scored for Scotland in a 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands and promised there was more to come! His former Celtic coach Tommy Burns says: ‘Shaun is a free-kick specialist and players like that are very valuable, but the big thing for him is he wants to become a valuable player for what he does on the field as well as just taking free-kicks.’ Can’t remember the last time we had a free-kick specialist? Alan Thompson had a mean old free kick on him at times but … ? Burns added he wished he’d not left Celtic: ‘You have mixed feelings for him because he came in here and got into the first team and wins player of the year awards and then the next thing he is away. So there is definitely happiness for him to have done well for Scotland, but disappointment with the fact that he has moved on. Shaun came in at 16 and only had one year in the academy before he started to train with the first team.’

In a Vital Poll we asked a week ago what you thought of the Harry Kewell links. The results were; Paper rubbish 34%, 32% said they would be delighted if it proved true. That left 34% saying ‘worried if true’ or NO NO NO NO ! The rumour seems to have quietened down now, so probably nothing in the story at all!

Vital Villa also asked, in a poll suggested by Belfast Villain, what position is top priority in the transfer window? 41% want a new central midfielder (with Reo-Coker being strongly linked, we might just have our wish!). 32% voted for a new right-back with Mark Delaney struggling with injuries and Aaron Hughes being linked to a Villa Park exit. 15% said Villa needed a new goalkeeper. That left 7% voting for a new striker, 2% right midfielder, and 1% each for a new left back, left midfielder and centre back.
