Anyway, back somewhat on topic, MON said: ‘It’s a complete fabrication. No-one from the clubs mentioned contacted me at all about Thomas Sorensen.’ Full article: Sorryson Is Talking Pants Apparently

Steve Sidwell returned against his former club Chelsea and scored for the Villa reserves this week.

Villa were linked to Reading’s Kevin Doyle again at the weekend and Marlon Harewood is still being linked with an exit, with Stoke apparently one potential suitor. Villa’s Sunday Press & Transfer Talk. The same players are also being talked about in the press today with the Mirror, The Daily Express and the Sun both claiming Stoke manager Tony Pulis will bid £3.5million for Harewood this January. Also in the Mirror, they have a quote from Kevin Doyle saying he is looking to shoot his way to a move to Villa Park! (Links say we are going to buy him for £7million in January) The Republic of Ireland player said: ‘You know what you have to do to get back to the top level.’

England under-21 midfielder James Milner says he is relieved to have qualified after the 2-2 draw v Wales last night at Villa Park. The Villa winger said after conceding 2 goals that although they were disappointed it could prove to be a wake up call to the team. ‘We set ourselves high standards and we’re disappointed. But it was great performance to get through and we have shown we have everything needed to go on and win the tournament.’

John Carew plays for Norway v Holland tonight, Stiliyan Petrov is on his travels with Bulgaria to play Georgia. Brad Guzan is in the USA squad to play Trinidad & Tobago and Gareth Barry is hoping to feature for England v Belarus, all for World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile Gabby Agbonlahor picked up a hamstring strain in Tuesday night’s England U21 game. He was meant to hop onto a private jet to join up with the full England squad but instead is on the treatment table at Villa in the hopes of being fit for Saturday’s home clash v Portsmouth. Stuart Pearce said: ‘We took Gabriel off as a precaution. He should be OK for Saturday but the last thing we wanted was for Gabriel to break down on us and get an injury that might keep him out for a number of weeks.’

The Baggies official site have informed fans of the reserves that the Barclays Premier Reserve League (South) home clash with Villa has been put back seven days to Monday, November 10 (ko 7pm) at the Hawthorns.

Martin O’Neill says that Ashley Young deserved his Premiership player of the month award. ‘Stiliyan Petrov had a terrific month. Ashley was very eye-catching but he also does a lot of work and I think he deserved it. He has been really brilliant, but we have one or two players who would have been in contention. With it being for the month of September they wouldn`t have taken into consideration our Chelsea performance.’ He also joked that Ashley Young dedicating his award to the manager should guarantee him a place in the team at the weekend!

Ashley Young, you really do spoil us! The winger says the team are looking to reward the fans with a win this Saturday. I bloody hope so, I’m taking my nephew, it is his 12th birthday, and I don’t think he’s ever seen us win! Ash told the official site that the team know they’ve got to bounce back from the Chelsea defeat and says the fans play a crucial role. ‘The atmosphere at Villa Park has been amazing this season and the fans have really got behind us. They have genuinely been like a 12th man and the lads really feel like we need to reward them every time we step out for a home game. Full article: Young Praises The ’12th Man’ Villa Faithful

Thought for the day: I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, ‘How flexible are you?’ I said, ‘I can’t make Tuesdays or Thursdays.’
