Unoial Villa News…

Aston Villa are now apparently after the signature of FC Porto’s Portugal right-back Jose Bosingwa for around £3m according to the Sunday papers today.

Watford’s French striker Hameur Bouazza has been linked to Aston Villa and Fulham but Hornets boss Adrian Boothroyd says he is going nowhere unless a big bid comes in. ‘If anyone wants to sign Bouazza they will have to pay big money, simple as that. He’s a quality player and I’m not prepared to let our best players leave for nothing.’

Ashley Young says the one thing Villa aren’t short of is speed. Used to be the same at the Raves I went to. Oh hang on, sorry I misunderstood!!! He says that Gabriel Agbonlahor is the one who’d win the race though adding on the official site; ‘We haven’t had any races, but I’d have to say Gabby is the fastest, because his pace is frightening. ‘People are always telling me that I’m quick, but I feel like an old man compared with him. I’m glad I don’t have to defend against Gabby’s pace.’

Young also says that the arrival of Nigel Reo-Coker from West Ham is a great signing because Martin O’Neill has brought another leader into the squad. ‘Nigel is a character and even though I’ve spent most of my summer with him at the Championships, I look forward to him being here. He’ll still play like a captain, whether he’s got the armband or not. We should have 11 leaders, not just one out there and Nigel will bring those battling qualities that we all like to see.’

With Gareth Barry remaining as penalty taker, Ashley Young says he would also be happy to take them. ‘When I was younger I used to take penalties and I never missed one. I’d definitely be up for taking them regularly at Villa, but I doubt Gareth Barry will want to give up the job.’

Villa defender Gary Cahill has told the official site how happy he is that the reports linking him to a loan move to West Bromwich Albion were wide of the mark.

Gary Cahill is looking to Europe and wants to enjoy the friendly against Inter Milan next month as a taste of things to come. He said: ‘It’s not often Villa get to play Inter Milan. They won their league by miles last season and have some great player. So it will be a great day….The match is a great incentive to all of us in the Villa side. We should be playing clubs like this regularly and it’s also a spur to remind us that we should be involved in European competition.’ Adding: ‘Last season we were a long way away from that, but hopefully this season we are going to put things right.’

News and gossip is short on the ground at the moment, one rumour that can be put to bed is that England striker Jermain Defoe is staying at Spurs so no £12million move for Villa.

The Express and Star say that Liam Ridgewell’s move to Birmingham City is in doubt because Villa won’t drop their £2.5million asking price. Wolves are also apparently interested. I don’t think we should be selling him full stop, thought we were building a squad? However, good to see if he is sold, with two years left on his contract, he won’t be given away.

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Yatey Villain: Who is the best value signing in the Premiership so far (excluding ‘silly money’ moves and erm, Kieran Richardson). Marlon Harewood (34%) Steve Sidwell (28%) Steven Davis (13%) Craig Bellamy (4%) Eduardo da Silva (4%) Mark Viduka (4%) Ryan Babel (3%) Geremi (2%) Joey Barton (2%) Phil Jagielka (2%) Olivier Kapo (1%) Gareth Bale (1%) David Nugent (1%) Jason Koumas (1%) So there you go!

Stuart Pearce has said that Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor might still be in his plans as he plans clear the air talks with the player and Villa boss. The England Under-21 manager said: ‘I didn’t do it before now because I didn’t know I would be working for the FA, but one of the first things I have to do is get in my car and go to Birmingham to visit the player and manager. We need to sit and have good communications with them.’

Former Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel scored the winning goal for MLS All-Stars against Scottish giants Celtic on Thursday. His performance earnt him the man of the match award. JPA has scored nine goals in eleven games for the New York Red Bulls. Full article: Click Here

Martin O’Neill has suggested that transfer prices are too high and that he isn’t in the business of bankrupting football clubs. Not convinced he needs to overly worry about prices, isn’t that the job of the CEO and Randy to see what money is available and who they can buy, always thought the managers job was targeting the players? Still, what do I know? DON’T answer that! 😉 Full quotes: Click Here

Arsenal’s England under-21 international Justin Hoyte could be the answer to Aston Villa’s right-back problem, with Martin O’Neill reportedly considering a £2.5million swoop. One that it looks like we won’t be getting is Luke Young who is apparently moving to Middlesbrough.
