Three Wins On The Spin Delights Bruce

Manager Steve Bruce has reflected positively on Aston Villa making it three wins on the spin as we took victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Taking a two nil victory over Ipswich Town at Villa Park with a Albert Adomah brace, Villa built on wins over Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers as we lifted ourselves into fourth place in the Championship table.

Reflecting on a positive end to November having opened the month with defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, Bruce told the Official Site as he met with the media for his full post game press conference.

‘It’s been a great week. It was a comfortable afternoon and we did enough. We did enough without being swashbuckling to get the three points, which is the most important thing. It’s been a good week, a good November. Let’s continue throughout December. That’s vitally important for a club of our stature. It’s been doom and gloom for too long here, and still was a year ago. The club’s been trying to get over the relegation and mount a challenge in the Championship and it’s been very difficult. Thankfully over the last few months there’s been a change in personnel and attitude. That filters through to the supporters and it slowly feels like we’re turning it around. There’s still a lot of work to do but it’s the best place we’ve been in for a while.’

With Adomah getting the brace, he obviously came in for praise from Bruce.

‘He`s had a wonderful run. At the start because of the form of Andre Green, he wasn`t in the team. He`s worked hard and got his reward. Playing on the left, he looks so comfortable. He`s a threat and he`s got a great return. Long may it continue. There`s no reason why he can`t set his sights on another 10. He`s done terrifically well.’

He went on to add.

‘Snoddy was great and Whelan has played three games in a week. For his age, to do that was fantastic. I thought he was the best player on the pitch. It’s a great testament to him.’

The downside from the day was another injury to Mile Jedinak that saw him substituted.

‘He’s got a shoulder injury – we don’t know how serious. We’ll find out in the next 24 to 48 hours. We could do with a bit of luck on that front. We’ve been dealt some cruel blows in the last few weeks with Kodjia and Terry also. We’ve been without the likes of Grealish and Lansbury for months, we don’t need this too. We hope our luck can change in that respect.’

With Leeds United up next.

‘I watched them on the TV today and they’re a good side. They’ve got some good players up the top end of the pitch. We’ll have to defend well. We’re also playing well ourselves, which makes for a cracking game at Elland Road. It’s live on the television and will no doubt be in front of a full house.’

With a busy December schedule now to be faced, he went on to say.

‘It’s a massive time for every club. The schedule is ridiculous, but that’s what we do…us English. We’ll all try and enjoy Christmas somehow. It’s a lot of games every week, but we’ll get on with it.’

Bruce also picked out Glenn Whelan for praise, saying he was ‘worth every penny’ and he now feels he’s winning over the doubters.

‘I thought Glenn was terrific this weekend. I know he`s had a few doubters but look at the way he goes about it, the way he plays, his attitude, he`s as tough as they come and a great professional. You can`t have enough of people like that around the place.’

Adding.

‘Maybe this time last year we didn`t have enough of people like him. But certainly he`s been worth every penny we`ve spent. He never gives it away, he breaks things up, he`s determined and resilient, he covers a lot of ground and he`s a very good midfielder player. We could do with him at 26 rather than 33 but still he`s played three games in a week and he was the best player this weekend. That`s testament to him and how he looks after himself.’
